Well, the presentation from IFT was interesting. I have seen this man work with our union group and he is very different in that situation!
The simulation is going very well. I am impressed with our team. The table talk is controlled clearly by our chief negotiator and he is sensitive to the moods and opinions of the team. I especially learned that being prepared is very important and impacts both teams. In a "real" situation, the chief negotiator would make sure that a point person would be in charge of having everything ready to go. The "opposite" team seemed to have some communication issues.
This is probably the most interesting class for me so far as all of this is so new. I think most impactful is that this part of Superintendent's job permeates everything everyone in the district does. It is not just a seasonal thing done and then forgotten. Another issue facing a Supt concerns making sure your staff adheres to agreements. This is the supervision piece that is so easily missed.
