Today's discussion was interesting due to the fact that everyone brings a different experience to the group when it comes to negotiations. While we are all in the business of education for the same reason: teaching and learning, negotiations is another example of how non-standardized we are as a profession. Ultimately when you look at all the aspects of negotiations that we discussed from the history of labor/management organizations to mandatory topics it all comes down to relationships. Those that described an amiable negotiation experience also described an environment in which trust has been built prior to the negotiation process. I also agree that having a prepared list of documents to bring to the table is helpful for a variety of reasons. First, organization, sceon to be used as evidence and thirs it showe that you are intersting in digging in and doing the best job for all parties involved. I enjoyed hearing about everyone's experiences.
