Final Class Day

This day flew by...as they all have. Dennis and Jay had great things to offer about language. I am beginning to believe that it is a great idea to have an attorney do the negotiations. Dennis knew how to craft wording to keep the situation from being grievable. I think that is important because I know that people can read things into what others write. When in fact, an entirely different intention was meant. The whole salary aspect is really interesting as well. I know I need to continue to work on this whole piece with regards to indexes, changes bases, etc. And, insurance - that is a monster all on its own.

I want to tip my hat to my negotiation team. I learned so much from everyone. Chad and Tim were especially helpful at explaining thoroughly why one idea worked over another. Thanks, too, to Denise and Laurie, you were great with questions and documenting as well. Coming from our district where negotiation is "pain," I wasn't sure we were doing things right. The concept of fair and equitable is just so foreign. I do like knowing that it doesn't have to hurt when a contract is settled.

I have truly learned so much in this class and really picked up a lot from my classmates as well as our speakers and Dr. Closen. The work is in the fine print with regards to contracts! Good luck to everyone!
