Reflections on the Federal Mediation Presentation

The information that was presented by Mr. Meehan was very thorough. It gave an excellent overview of the mediation process. However, I feel that he was a bit long-winded on some of the topics. I would have appreciated more real-life examples to help put all of the information into perspective. Furthermore, it would have been nice to have more hands-on activities to familiarize us with the actual mediation process. In the future, if he is speaking to the EDL 623 class, it would be beneficial for him to focus less on the topics that are already covered by the course instructor.
The information on Interest-Based Bargaining was interesting to me, as I have not had any real exposure to this topic. I think that Mr. Meehan should have spent more time on this topic. The simulated IBB activity was beneficial for understanding the process; however, I wish he would have utilized more activities like the simulation to present this information. Overall, I did get a better understanding of the mediation process and how it can benefit school districts during collective bargaining.
