The idea of getting the history of negotiations from the new district and having a spreadsheet to review information seem like good ways to review information and get a better overall picture. Dr. Closen mentioned that he had the format of what to cover in new board member orientation. I'd like to add this informaiton to my superintendent file for future reference.
It was interesting to consider how to set up increases over time. At first, I was confused with the statement of 4,5,5,6; it became clear after more discussion on the topic and the scenerio within our groups. I really like working in the groups and then hearing what each group has to say. It gives the opportunity to hear a variey of perspectives and ideas. As a legislator, my husband has talked about how they deal with appropriations and determine what will be funded. It is interesting to note that the bargaining has many of the same steps.
As one of the few in the class who is still in the classroom, sometimes it is hard to envision how to utilize the information, but the group discussions help by getting feedback from others and getting their views on what I'm thinking. I look forward to the negotiations simulation since the only experience I have had related to this has been through working in the unemployment office and talking to our union representatives.
